(1595-1655) Уинслоу, Эдвард
Основатель и лидер Плимутской колонии [Plymouth Colony]. Один из пилигримов [Pilgrims], участвовал в организации плавания "Мейфлауэра" [Mayflower]. В 1620 заключил договор с индейским вождем Массасоитом [Massasoit], после чего смог обеспечить колонию запасами еды и создать несколько факторий для торговли пушниной. Во время поездки на родину в 1635 был арестован по приказу архиепископа У. Лода и в течение четырех месяцев находился в тюрьме. В 1624-46 представитель (агент) британских властей в колонии. Был губернатором в 1633-34, 1636-37 и в 1644-45. Вернулся в Англию в 1646; был членом правительства Оливера Кромвеля
